Affiliate marketing company MoreNiche has unveiled new technology which will change the way in which commission is paid out.
Up until now, it had generally been the case that the affiliate which directed a customer to a product website where an actual purchase is made would be the sole recipient of commission.
However, research has proved that a separate affiliate may first have piqued the customer's interest in a product, even if he conducts more research before returning to buy via a different website.
According to research figures, some 39 per cent of sales have more than one affiliate in the chain which leads to an actual purchase.
For this reason, Moreniche has implemented a split commission system which will ensure the affiliate responsible for bringing a product to a buyer's attention will be rewarded.
Initially being rolled out with the Proactol merchant – the scheme will see the affiliate who directs a customer to actual sale still receiving the most commission, but the one who first introduced the buyer to the product will be offered a flat rate of £3.50 ($5).
Managing Director of MoreNiche Andrew Slack points out that the affiliate who first secures the attention of the buyer is effectively the most important one.
